Deyn Studio is a desktop app for turning long videos into clips. Find moments, edit captions and framing, then export. It also includes Spot Assistant for quick edits from any app, plus tools for audio, images, and documents.

Yes. The €29 launch license is paid once and includes lifetime access, future desktop updates, and use on up to two devices. There is no subscription and no clip allowance. The only cost that can recur is optional: cloud AI, which you pay your own provider for.

OpenRouter is a service that gives you one key for AI models from many providers. You add your own key in Deyn Studio and choose a model, and OpenRouter bills you directly for what you use. That usage is not part of the license.

It depends on the model you choose and how long your video is. Local transcription is free, so the cost is only the steps that run in the cloud, like finding clips, translating captions, or planning an edit. After the AI trial, those steps use your OpenRouter key, and Studio activity shows your token use.

Eligible accounts get limited sponsored uses for clip suggestions, Smart Clean, caption translation, and Media Assistant and Spot Assistant planning. Deyn shows your remaining uses in the app.

You sign in with a Deyn Studio account, and your license belongs to that account rather than a key. The app checks it online when it starts, and local work continues offline for up to seven days after a successful check.

Deyn Studio is currently available for macOS, with separate downloads for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Windows and Linux versions are coming soon.

A small window that opens over any app when you press ⌥ D. Select files in Finder or open a video link in your browser, say what you want (“compress under 25 MB”, “make it vertical”, “download it”), and it works in the background. Media Assistant is the in-app version, where you review a plan before it runs.

No. By default, every edit saves a new copy beside the original, and Undo moves the new copies to the Trash. An optional setting moves originals to the Trash after a verified edit; Undo can’t bring those back.

Public video links that do not need a sign-in and are not protected by DRM. If a download fails, the source may have changed or may be limiting requests. Only download media you have permission to use.

Whisper transcription and background removal run on your computer. Cloud AI and transcription send the data needed for that task to OpenRouter, which may charge for usage.

No. Deyn only works on files you choose. Media Assistant and Spot Assistant plan the task you ask for, and Spot Assistant checks basic details of the first few selected files, like format and whether they have audio, to hide edits that would change nothing. Features such as transcription and clip finding analyze media when you run them. Watch folders edit new files automatically, but only in folders you set up.

Only the files you’ve selected in Finder, the address of your front browser tab, and, if you leave it on, a link on your clipboard. macOS asks for Automation permission once. Watch folders only handle folders you set up, and leave files that are already there alone.

Common edits, like compress, convert, mute, make vertical, or fit a size limit, are read by rules and use no AI and no credits. Requests it can’t read are planned by the same AI as Media Assistant, which sends your instruction and the file details, not the files. That uses your AI trial, then your OpenRouter key.
